It's the summer of 2003. After a historic drought the last five years, this year has brought near record rainfall, and summer temperatures milder than normal. In August, the rain has finally failed; only a trace the last two weeks and the temperature is getting into the mid-nineties every day.

Our Japanese Magnolia, which has thrived since we moved it from the arid hillside to the well-watered middle of the lawn, has developed a leaf problem. Fungus? Blight? Bugs? We're seeking expert advice.
