The Pond in Winter
Back to Contents and Directions
Even the first winter, there was enough of a pond for some to enjoy.
Like a coyote off a cliff, sometimes he'd be half-way before he went under.
But there'd always come a splash:
And coming out calls for four-foot drive.
Even in the winter there was work to be done. The second season the island started to take shape, and we had to go ahead and move the martin house on to it while we could still walk out there.
Since then we've even learned to take the tiller out to the island by boat.
