Some upkeep is just a chore, other becomes a project. Sometimes it's an unexpected, "Oh, my God, what now?!"

As when an elbow popped (pooped?) right outside the basement wall.

Or a somewhat lighter liquid refreshment from a broken hearted washing machine.
